What is "cottenham"

Cottenham is a village in Cambridgeshire, England. It is close to The Fens. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 6,095. Before the fens were drained in the 19th century Cottenham was on the last contour before the waterlogged marshes, with Ely being the nearest dry land around to the north-east.
