What is "cobank"

CoBank, a part of the United States Farm Credit System, is an agricultural credit bank (combination farm credit bank and bank for cooperatives) serving cooperatives in the agricultural sector. It lends money to farm credit associations, agricultural businesses, and rural utilities, who collectively own CoBank. It also fully owns the Farm Credit Leasing Services Corporation. The company provides international banking services for U.S. agribusinesses, exclusive among banks of the Farm Credit System. It is based in Greenwood Village, Colorado, near Denver.

It was previously known as CoBank-National Bank for Cooperatives, and was formed in 1989 with the merger of eleven of thirteen bank for cooperatives created with the Farm Credit Act of 1933; the remaining two banks joined in 1995 when it merged with the Springfield Bank for Cooperatives and the Farm Credit Bank of Springfield, which also made it a farm credit bank, and in 1999 with the merger of St. Paul Bank for Cooperatives. In 2012, CoBank merged with U.S. AgBank, Farm Credit Bank. In 2014, they announced the construction of a new headquarters next to Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre, which opened in December 2015.
