Chub (gay slang)

A chub is an overweight or obese gay man who identifies as being part of the related chubby culture. Although there is some overlap between chubs and bears, chubs have their own distinct subculture and community. There are bars, organizations and social events specifically catering to this subculture, which allows members of the community to socialize with each other and develop social networks.

In the last several years, large regional social events have developed. They often feature pageants much like beauty pageants but more sexual in the attitude in which titles are given to winners, like "Mr. Chubby International" and "Mr. Chaser International". In the United States, there is an annual national event, Convergence, as well as several annual regional gatherings. There is also an annual event in Europe called European Big Men's Convergence. These events are held in different cities each year and are usually hosted by that city's local big men's organization.

Like Torbert, Chub wore a Harvard pullover, a cotton shirt, grey flannel trousers, and a pair of stiff English brown brogues.

Goldman thought Chub and Torbert looked like what they were: a couple of polite young men in a hurry to be older ones.

Like most young men of his age, Chub had never been much interested in countryside and, after reading all about the Brooklyn air crash in the newspaper, was intending to make a start on Baudelaire.

He tried hard to ignore her seductive perfume, and her beautifully manicured fingernails, and her perfect smile, which was surely just her being pleasant, because women of her age and beauty and obvious sophistication were not supposed to be attracted to young men like Chub Farrell.

To his delighted surprise the woman, whose name was Edith, seemed keen to talk, first about Baudelaire and then about anything at all, and by the time the express reached Mystic, Connecticut, which was about halfway to Grand Central Station, Chub thought he himself was probably halfway to paradise.

Alex, that she was doing Chub a favour, giving him the kind of education she thought would matter more than Economics and French.

Switzerland, French was just one of several languages that she spoke fluently, and, as the train journey progressed to its conclusion, she suggested that she might give Chub French conversation at her Riverside Drive apartment over the Christmas holidays.

And not just Chub, but his roommate, Torbert, about whom she had heard so much, and whom she was quite sure her friend Anne would like, maybe as much as Edith liked Chub.

At first, Torbert was as concerned about his mid-year examinations as Chub had been.

So Torbert agreed to come, on the understanding that neither he nor Chub told their parents about it.

Edith and Chub went to bed, where she fellated him once again for good measure.

But he was careful not to screw the boards down too tight, in case Chub or Torbert noticed anything different when they walked across the room.

Each day Edith called the Cambridge apartment to report on her own daily conversations with Chub Farrell.

Tom figured that if Chub, or Torbert, found out what was hidden behind the closet in Hollis Fifteen, Chub would certainly inform the woman he loved.

He could recall the look of astonishment on the faces of Chub Farrell and Torbert Winthrop when he found the rifle in their room at Hollis Hall, and smiled.
