Cheirostylis

Cheirostylis is a genus of flowering plants from the orchid family, Orchidaceae.

The genus Cheirostylis consists of 53 species recognized distributed from tropical Africa and Madagascar as well as from the region from India east to Japan and the western Pacific, south to Australia.

Cheirostylis is one of the so-called jewel orchids (Belitsky and Bersenev, 1999). This is a very distinct genus, characterized by its sepals connate to form a sepaline tube, lip with a saccate base containing a few papillae, claw entire on either side, column with two stylidia. Cheirostylis is conventionally propagated by seeds, however the germination rate is very low.
