Chamounix (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
Chamounix, also known as Montpelier, is a historic home located in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was originally built about 1800, and enlarged and expanded about 1856. It is a 2 1/2-story stuccoed stone dwelling measuring 45 feet long and 47 feet deep. It has a hipped roof with dormers and features a piazza on three sides, with decorative iron supports. It was built as a country retreat, then appropriated as a part of Fairmount Park in 1869. It has housed a boarding house and restaurant and refreshment stand. It has housed an international youth hostel since 1964.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
