Carpenterella is a genus of moths in the family Lymantriidae. The source of the genus name is cited as "Collenette, C.L. 1933. Entomologist's Monthly Magazine 69: 259" which is included in this article: C.L. Collenette and G. D. H. Carpenter. 1933. New species, and description of larvae, of Lymantriidae from Uganda. Entomologist's Monthly Magazine 69: 258-264, 265-270. The type-species is Carpenterella nesiotica Collenette, 1933, described on page 259 of the article. The second author, G. D. H. Carpenterella (fungus)

Carpenterella is a genus erected for a species of chytrid fungus, Carpenterella molinea, that inhabits the deep vascular xylem tissues of the Moline variety of the American elm tree, causing disease. The genus name recognizes plant pathologist Clarence Willard Carpenter, who described a similar fungus in relation to chlorotic streak disease of sugar cane in Hawaii.
