A bowab ( , "doorman") is a doorman, common throughout Egypt. A bowab's job is to take care of the house to which they are assigned. Bowabs are usually male and wear a gallabeya (a type of kaftan), a native Egyptian dress. Bowabs are also usually from southern Egypt. Their salary is determined and paid by residents of the house or the residential building.
