Boibe

Boibe (Greek: ) was a town and lake of ancient Thessaly, mentioned in the Homeric " Catalogue of Ships" passage: And they that dwelt in Pherae beside the lake Boebeïs, and in Boebe, and Glaphyrae, and well-built Iolcus, these were led by the dear son of Admetus with eleven ships. According to Strabo, Boibe participated in the 3rd century BC synoecism of Demetrias.

Boibe was also a dependent town of Gortys in the plain of Mesara, Crete. (modern Pompia or Pobia) The modern Thessalian locations bear the names Kanalia and Lake Karla. According to Károly Kerényi, Boibe is a dialectal form of Phoibe, a surname of Artemis.
