['e]parvin; akin to OF. espervier a sparrow hawk, F.
['e]pervier, fr. OHG. sparw[=a]ri (G. sperber), fr. OHG.
sparo sparrow, because this disease makes the horse raise the
infirm leg in the manner of a sparrow hawk or sparrow. See
