Bishopstown
Bishopstown is located in the civil parish of St. Finbar's, Barony of Cork, County Cork, Ireland. Today it is considered a southwestern suburb of Cork with a population of 24,136 people. Bishopstown consists of two townlands which are Ballineaspigmore and Ballineaspigbeg (sometimes spelt Ballinaspigmore, etc.).
Despite common misconception, the origin of the town names does not stem from an early 18th-century bishop who built his country residence there. The town name can be traced back further and can be found in sources dating back to the 16th century.
