Bijbehara, also known as Vijeshwara & Vejibyour, is one of the major towns in South Kashmir Anantnag district. Its location falls on National Highway NH-1 A that connects Kashmir Valley with the rest of India. NH-1 A Highway is near a town popularly known as "Chinar Town" because there are two parks (Paadshaahi Bagh and Darashukoh Garden) known for their Chinar trees. The former is home to the oldest Chinar tree in the state. The town is about 9 kilometres from the Anantnag township and 45 km from the Summer capital, Srinagar.

The town localities of Bijbehara include Baba Mohalla, Vaid Mohalla, Dobighat, Khar Mohalla, Zirpara, Eidgah, Pandit Hamaam, Sadar Bazaar, Pomposh Mohalla, Goriwan, Saraf Mohalla, Peershah Mohalla, Ahanger Mohalla, Feroze Shah Mohalla, Sheikh Mohalla, and Ghaad Hanjipora. The town has recently expanded. New Housing Colony, Friends Colony Eidgah, Qazi Mohalla Eidgah, Sicop Colony, Padshahi Bagh Colony, Deewan Bagh, Eidgah Colony, Tehsil Road-Baghandar are the localities which are currently being populated.

Important villages on the outskirts of town, including Pazalpora, Jablipora, Subhaanpora and Semthan.
