Bhulia is an Indian Hindu caste originally from western Orissa but presently found throughout Orissa/India. They are also known as Bholia, Bhoriya, Bholwa, Meher,Mehera and Mihir. They speak in Hindi,Oriya. History says that the Bhulia migrated to Orissa with the first Chauhan Raja of Patna. It is thought they may belong to a north Indian caste who do not know their origin .The Bhulia have a high position with the weaver caste. They have no sub castes. They are a weaver caste known primarily for their tie-dye fabrics (known as sambalpuri). Bhulia caste members all use the surname Meher, and are therefore sometimes also referred to as the Meher Tanti (tanti being a generic term for all weaver castes). They are a major caste which have a big contribution to the art, literature, tradition of orissa/india.
