Betelguese \Bet"el*guese\ (b[e^]t"[e^]l*j[=e]z), n. [F. B['e]telgeuse, of Arabic origin.] (Astron.) A bright star of the first magnitude, near one shoulder of Orion. [Written also Betelgeux and Betelgeuse.]
