Beaver dam (disambiguation)

Beaver dams are structures built by beavers.

Beaver Dam or Beaverdam may also refer to:

Beaver dam

Beaver dams are dams built by beavers to provide ponds as protection against predators such as coyotes, wolves, and bears, and to provide easy access to food during winter. These structures modify the natural environment in such a way that the overall ecosystem builds upon the change, making beavers a keystone species. Beavers work at night and are prolific builders, carrying mud and stones with their fore-paws and timber between their teeth. Beavers can rebuild primary dams overnight, though they may not defend secondary dams as vigorously.

Beaver Dam (Knightdale, North Carolina)

Beaver Dam is an antebellum plantation house located on the northern edge of present-day Knightdale, wake County, North Carolina. The house was built circa 1810 by Col. William Hinton, brother of Charles Lewis Hinton who built the nearby Midway Plantation. At its height, Beaver Dam plantation encompassed around and was home to about 50 slaves.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

In 2005, the house was purchased by Hinton Land, LLC and underwent a 6-month restoration by Lambeth Restoration, HagerSmith Architects, Williams Realty and Building Company, John Stein Painting, Western Cedar Supply, and others.
