Basyle \Bas"yle\ (b[a^]s"[i^]l or b[=a]s"[i^]l), n. [Gr. ba`sis base + "y`lh wood. See -yl.] (Chem.) A positive or nonacid constituent of compound, either elementary, or, if compound, performing the functions of an element.
