What is "asulqucha"

Asulqucha ( Quechua asul blue, a borrowing from Spanish azul, qucha lake, "blue lake", also spelled Azulcocha) is a lake in the Paryaqaqa mountain range in the Andes of Peru. It is located in the Junín Region, Jauja Province, Canchayllo District. It lies northwest of Paryaqaqa, the highest mountain of the range. The lake belongs to the watershed of the Mantaro River.

In 1997 the Asulqucha dam was erected at the southeastern end of the lake at . The dam is high. It is operated by Electroperu.
