Arlanza (DO)

Arlanza is a Spanish Denominación de Origen (DO) located in the provinces of Burgos and Palencia, Castile and León, Spain. It was officially upgraded from the lower status of QWPSR (VCPRD in Spanish) on 24 January 2008. The DO covers 67 municipalities (54 in the province of Burgos and 13 in the province of Palencia). There are 9 wineries (bodegas) from Burgos registered and 2 from Palencia. The DO takes its name from the river Arlanza which flows through it.

Arlanza (river)

The Arlanza River rises in the Sierra de la Demanda, near Quintanar de la Sierra in an area known as Fuente Sanza. As it flows through the province of Burgos, Spain, it passes through the municipalities of Castrovido, Salas de los Infantes, Covarrubias and Lerma. Its main tributary is River Arlanzón that joins near Quintana del Puente shortly before the Arlanza itself joins River Pisuerga.

Comarca del Arlanza is a comarca located south-east of the province of Burgos in the autonomous community of Castile and León. It is bounded on the north by the Odra-Pisuerga and the Alfoz de Burgos, south by the Ribera del Duero, on the east by the province of Palencia and west by the Sierra de la Demanda.
