Antarctandes

Antarctandes (Antartandes in spanish) is the mountain range that is located in the axis of the Antarctic Peninsula and can be consider the continuation of the Andes mountains in the Antarctic continent. With this theory the Andes start in the border between Colombia and Venezuela, submerges in the Atlantic ocean to the east of Tierra del Fuego forming the underwater mountain range Scotia Arc and reappearing of to stretches in the islands Aurora, South Georgia, South Sandwich, South Orkney and South Shetland, continuing afterwards in the Antarctic peninsula.

The maximum height of the Antartandes is the Mount Coman with 3657m of Altitude, in the segment called mountains of The Eternity; it stands out also the Mount Esperanza with 2860m of Altitude. From the Antartandes extends a ramification to the southwest known as Ellsworth Mountains, low mountain range and to a large extent subglaciar that it splices to the Antartandes with another big Antarctic mountain range: the Transantarctic Mountains. In these, more exactly in the segment called Diamond Mountains, is the nunatak Mount Chiriguano with 3660m of Altitude. To the South Pole is the Antarctic Plateau.

The Antartandes is claimed by Argentina ( Argentine Antarctica), Chile ( Chilean Antarctic Territory) and the United Kingdom ( British Antarctic Territory), but all these claims are frozen by the article 4 of the Antarctic Treaty System.
