Almora is a municipal board and a cantonment town in the Almora district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Almora was founded in 1568. It is the district headquarters of Almora district.
It is considered the cultural heart of the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
The nearest railway station is Kathgodam 82 km (via Bhimtal), 86 km (via NH 87). Pantnagar Airport is the nearest at 113 km.
Almora Lok Sabha constituency is one of the five Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency in Uttarakhand. This constituency came into existence in 1957, following the delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies. It comprises four districts namely Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat and Pithoragarh. Since 2009, this constituency is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.
Almora was founded in 2001 as a musical project of the Turkish musician Soner Canözer.
