also fire-man, late 14c., "tender of a fire," from fire (n.) + man (n.). From 1650s as "furnace-tender" of a early steam engine. As "person hired to put out (rather than tend) fires" it is attested from 1714. For "stoker," Old English had fyrbeta.

Fireman (steam engine)

Fireman or stoker is the job title for someone whose job is to tend the fire for the running of a steam engine. On steam locomotives the term fireman is usually used, while on steamships and stationary steam engines, such as those driving saw mills, the term is usually stoker (although the British Merchant Navy did use fireman). The German word Heizer is equivalent. The United States Navy referred to them as watertenders. Much of the job is hard physical labor, such as shoveling fuel, typically coal, into the engine's firebox.

Fireman (TV series)

, known as Magma Man in some markets, is a Japanese tokusatsu television series about a superhero, the title character, who fights kaiju and other villains. Produced by Tsuburaya Productions, the show was broadcast on Nippon Television from January 7 to July 31, 1973, with a total of 30 episodes. This was also one of several shows Tsuburaya did to celebrate the company's 10th Anniversary (the other two being Ultraman Taro and Jumborg Ace).

Fireman is the first album by Canadian alternative/indie rock band hHead released in 1992 (then re-released in 1994-1995 by IRS Records).

It was first released independently by hHead themselves, as a cassette and then released under Jam Entertainment Records. After hHead signed to IRS Records in 1994 to release Jerk, they also re-released the CD version of Fireman. There was also a version of Fireman released, that had 14 tracks (Under Jam Entertainment Records).

Video clips for "Flower" and "Collide" have been made.
