Killer (Finnish band)

Killer was a rock band founded in 1999 in Helsinki, Finland. Although Killer was a quartet, vocalist Siiri Nordin was by far the most visible member. Notable were the different music styles that influenced their tracks: Siiri grew up with jazz & blues but the influences of the band included grunge pioneers such as Pearl Jam & Nirvana (Timo), electronic music (guitarist Tumppi) and even funk & folk (drummer Teijo, who used to earn a living in a folk-based outfit).

The group's debut single Hurricane was released in February 2001. In August 2001 the debut was followed up by All I Want – a track that topped the local airplay list and made it to No. 2 on the charts, moving the band's debut album 'Sickeningly Pretty And Unpleasantly Vain' up to gold.

Their second album, Sure You Know How To Drive This Thing was internationally released in 2003 and entered the Finnish charts on position 7. Sure You Know How To Drive This Thing includes the song Naughty Boy which became the band's biggest hit. The song was one of the most played songs on Finnish radio during the summer of 2003; it also made it to number one on the MTV's Up North charts. One year later, Killer were invited to play at the legendary Rock am Ring festival in Germany.

On February 5, 2005, bass player Timo Huhtala announced on the band's website the group will take an "undetermined break";

As a result, Timo and Teijo formed their new band Killer Aspect, the name being a combination of the band names Killer and Personal Aspect – the former band of the guitarist.

Killer (Alice Cooper album)

Killer is the fourth studio album by the Alice Cooper band, released in November 1971. The album reached number 21 on the Billboard 200 album chart, and the two singles " Under My Wheels" and " Be My Lover" made the Hot 100 chart.

Cooper said in the liner notes of Fistful of Alice and In the Studio with Redbeard, which spotlighted the Killer and Love it to Death albums, that the song "Desperado" was written about his friend Jim Morrison, who died the year this album was released. According to an NPR radio interview with Alice Cooper, "Desperado" was written about Robert Vaughn's character from the movie The Magnificent Seven. " Halo of Flies" was, according to Cooper's liner notes in the compilation The Definitive Alice Cooper, an attempt by the band to prove that they could perform King Crimson-like progressive rock suites, and was supposedly about a SMERSH-like organisation. "Desperado", along with "Under My Wheels" and "Be My Lover" have appeared on different compilation albums by Cooper. The song "Dead Babies" stirred up some controversy following the album's release, despite the fact that its lyrics conveyed an "anti-child abuse" message. Musicians such as Jello Biafra and John Lydon have referred to the album as an influence.

Although " I Love It Loud" was an A-side single in the United States, it would be relegated to the B-side in the UK. It was the first song Vinnie Vincent and Gene Simmons wrote together after the two had met. In addition to not being able to chart at all, Kiss has never performed the song live and it has only been released as a single and on all issues of the Creatures of the Night album (the song was switched places with "Saint and Sinner" on the 1985 reissue).

In 2008, the song was featured on the Vinnie Vincent tribute album KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute to Vinnie Vincent, covered by DoubleVirgo.

Killer (pool)

Killer or killers is a multi-player folk variant of straight pool in which each player is assigned a set number of "lives" and takes one shot per to attempt to a ball, or else lose a life. Usually if the player then an additional life is lost. It is a popular pub game because it can involve a potentially unlimited number of players, and offers the opportunity for each player to bet a small amount of money for a reasonable return in winner-takes-all. There are often other local subrules such as potting the , or any two balls in one shot, gives the player an extra life, or that failure to pocket a ball on the does not cost a life (in which case the shooter shoots again). He was instead replaced by Grave Plott's Liquid Assassin.

It features production by producers that have previously collaborated with Tech like Michael "Seven" Summers and David Sanders II, as well as new collaborations such as with Tramaine "YoungFyre" Winfrey, Jonah "Matic Lee" Appleby and Adam " Wyshmaster" Cherrington.

Killer (philately)

In philately a killer is a particularly heavy type of handstamp consisting of heavy bars, cork impressions or other crude devices used to cancel postage stamps. Such handstamps may also be known as obliterators as the mark applied often obscures almost the whole of the stamp.

Killers were often used in the early days of stamps as the postal authorities wished to ensure that stamps could not be re-used.

In the United States this is also the name for a particular circular date stamp with four thick horizontal bars to the right. This handstamp effectively cancels the stamp while leaving the place and date information easily visible. The bars are known as killer bars.

There is no exact definition of what is, and is not, a killer cancel and the term is often used to apply to any heavy cancellation.
