Infernal (video game)

Infernal (formerly Diabolique: License to Sin) is a third person action game for Microsoft Windows, produced by Polish developer Metropolis Software and published by Playlogic International in 2007.

Infernal is a modern-style third person shooter, with major first-person shooter influences. Players control protagonist, Ryan Lennox, a former angel turned dark by unfortunate circumstances who has access to a number of unique demonic powers, including pyrokinesis, teleportation, and the ability to feed on the souls of fallen enemies.

The game has a metacritic score of 61/100 with mainly mediocre reviews saying it lacked polish and calling it last generation compared to current third person shooters of the time such as Gears of War and Resident Evil 4. On the other hand, some reviews said it had good graphics and called it "mindless fun."

A console port, Infernal: Hell's Vengeance was released on June 30, 2009 for Xbox 360.

Infernal (Swedish band)

Not to be confused with the Infernal from Kristianstad.

Infernal was an influential Swedish black metal band based in Stockholm. It was formed in 1997, mainly by David Parland (Blackmoon), who quickly teamed up with ex- Dark Funeral colleague and vocalist Themgoroth (Paul Mäkitalo), to create a band both similar to and more brutal and extreme than Dark Funeral, which Blackmoon had left in mid 1996.

The band saw the participation of several members like Matte Modin (ex-Dark Funeral, Defleshed) and Impious of In Aeternum among others. The last known line-up was Blackmoon (David Parland) - guitars, Typhos (Henke Ekeroth) - vocals and guitars and Alzazmon ( Tomas Asklund) - drums - this was the second real line-up, and it was dissolved in 2003.

David Parland re-formed the band in late 2008 with drummer Asklund. Infernal's new musical direction showcases a slightly more accessible sound than the first two Infernal EPs, and the new musical direction is more along older death/black metal and not as blastbeat-oriented as the old Infernal. This line-up introduces David as a vocalist as well as guitarist. The line-up was planned to be expanded to a full band in time for the planned full-length album and possible live gigs.

On July 14, 2009, it was revealed that Infernal had parted ways for good with drummer Tomas Asklund. A replacement in the form of Norwegian drummer Carl Engström from Astaroth and Recovery Injection has been found, and was announced on October 17. Old Necrophobic colleague and guitarist Martin Halfdan has also joined the band as a live and lead/solo guitarist mainly. Lord Abbadon joined in late 2009, also he mainly as a live member, and for a short time as a permanent bassplayer. He departed from the band for personal reasons and later committed suicide while playing in the band From Purgatory.

On May 2, 2010, Colombian underground cult label Goathorned Productions released the 3-track Infernal EP "The Infernal Return". This release features 3 tracks recorded early 2009, with David on guitars, bass and lead vocals. Tomas Asklund ( Gorgoroth, Dawn) played session drums on this EP. A demo entitled "Hellhymns" featured four tracks; it was the last recording before a full-length album, scheduled for release in late 2010 or early 2011.

On March 19, 2013, founder David Parland died, putting an end to the band.

Usage examples of "infernal".

The man who does evil from love of evil and confirms it in himself acts indeed from freedom according to reason, but his freedom is not in itself freedom or very freedom, but an infernal freedom which in itself is bondage, and his reason is not in itself reason, but is either spurious or false or plausible through confirmations.

Dixon and each one of them continue to evaluate both contacts, but I expect you to personally analyze the recordings and the computer results, because I think you will come up once again with that infernal masking device that has somehow confused some of our crew.

You are a half league in the air, Signor Genoese, in the region of storms, where the winds work their will, at times, as if infernal devils wore rioting to cool themselves, and where the stoutest limbs and the firmest hearts are brought but too often to see and confess their feebleness!

Celestial Gods, Archangels, Angels, and some Infernal Gods, Demons and fallen Angels.

The Swedenborgian doctrine concerning Christ and his mission is that he was the infinite God incarnate, not incarnate for the purpose of expiating human sin and purchasing a ransom for the lost by vicarious sufferings, but for the sake of suppressing the rampant power of the hells, weakening the influx of the infernal spirits, setting an example to men, and revealing many important truths.

But at the bottom of the infernal world is a vast ball of blackness, towards which all the hosts of demons, crowding down through the successive hells, forever turn their eager faces away from God.

These examples may serve as a small specimen of the infernal ingenuity displayed in the descriptions of the Hindu hells, which are all of one substantial pattern, however varied in the embroidery.

Leviathan, which God of all his works Created hugest that swim the ocean-stream, the picture that follows of the Norse-pilot mooring his boat under the lee of the monster is completed in a line that attunes the mind once more to all the pathos and gloom of those infernal deeps: while night Invests the sea, and wished morn delays.

If the infernal wind of Kerguelen were to arise and blow from the north even now they might be seized and dashed back on those rocks, but the south-east wind held steady and the cliffs drew away and the coast lengthened and new cliffs and bays disclosed themselves, till they almost fancied they could see, away to the east, the great seal beach where the remains of the dead man lay in the cave and where the great sea-bulls were without doubt taking their ease on the rocks.

Affections, or strictly lusts, of infernal love are as numerous as evils are, and affections, or properly loves, of heavenly love are as many as there are goods.

Infernal love, however, with its affections or lusts of evil and falsity, together with the enjoyments of the lusts and the thinking from those enjoyments, may be compared to a spider and the web spun about it.

Since, as was said, the affections of heaven and the lusts of hell are diametrically opposite to each other, plainly a heavenly joy is so unenjoyable to hell that it is unbearable, and in turn an infernal joy is so unenjoyable to heaven that it is unbearable, too.
