Buddy (1986) was a BBC schools drama, based on the novel of the same name by Nigel Hinton. It was shown as part of the social studies strand.

It starred Wayne Goddard as Buddy Clark, a teenager dealing with various life problems, Roger Daltrey as his father Terry and pupils from the Cavendish School in Eastbourne.

Daltrey reprised his role in the 1991 film Buddy's Song with Chesney Hawkes as Buddy.

"Buddy" is the third single released by De La Soul from their album 3 Feet High and Rising.

The song is often cited as an example of an effective remix; one that includes a change of song lyrics or beat. In this case, both the original song's lyrics and the musical bed received a make over. With its Taana Gardner sampling bassline, the 7 minute 12" version was clearly tailor-made for dancefloors and provided a striking contrast to the laid back album version.

The song was also famous for featuring the major members of the Native Tongues posse, including Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah and Monie Love. While Phife appears in the video itself and is heard in the extended mix, the mix in the video eliminates his entire verse.

Buddy (1997 film)

Buddy is a 1997 New Zealand/American film directed by Caroline Thompson and produced by Columbia Pictures with help from Jim Henson Pictures. It starred Rene Russo as Mrs. Gertrude 'Trudy' Lintz and Robbie Coltrane as her husband.

The film was based on the life of a gorilla called Massa with elements of Gertrude Lintz's other gorilla Gargantua (who was called "Buddy" at the time). In real life, Massa became the oldest gorilla on record until 2008, while Buddy/Gargantua died young as a circus attraction and his remains are now on display in a museum.

The gorilla suit used for Buddy was created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

Buddy (novel)

Buddy (1982) is a novel written by Nigel Hinton. The main characters are Buddy Clark, his mother Carol Clark, his father Terry Clark and Julian and Charmian Rybeero. The story deals with issues such as racism, thieving and child neglect.

The book was made into a television series starring Roger Daltrey as Buddy's father Terry in 1986.

It was the first installment in the Buddy trilogy and is followed by Buddy's Song (1987) which became a film (starring Chesney Hawkes and Roger Daltrey) in 1991 and Buddy's Blues (1995).

Buddy is still widely used in English lessons at British and Irish secondary schools, sometimes with the TV series to compare the two media.
