Watchtower (band)

Watchtower is an American progressive metal band based in Austin, Texas. The band was influenced by late 1970s progressive rock acts, such as Rush and U.K., as well as the burgeoning new wave of British heavy metal. While Watchtower never reached mainstream success, they have been cited as an influence by many other progressive metal bands, such as Dream Theater, Death, Atheist, Sieges Even and Spiral Architect. So far, Watchtower has released two studio albums (of which the last was released in 1989), one compilation album, four digital singles and three demo cassettes, and has been featured on many compilation albums.

Watchtower

A watchtower is a type of fortification used in many parts of the world. It differs from a regular tower in that its primary use is military, and from a turret in that it is usually a freestanding structure. Its main purpose is to provide a high, safe place from which a sentinel or guard may observe the surrounding area. In some cases, non-military towers, such as religious pagodas, may also be used as watchtowers.

Watchtower (magic)

In the tradition of the 1880s Order of the Golden Dawn a watchtower or guardian in ceremonial and derived neopagan magical tradition is a tutelary spirit of one of the four cardinal points or "quarters" ( north, east, south, and west). They are also variously associated in many traditions with each the four classical elements ( earth, air, fire, and water) and stars ( Fomalhaut, Aldebaran, Regulus, and Antares). The Watchtowers are evoked during the ritual of casting a magic circle.

Alternately, "Watchtowers" may refer specifically to the abodes of the Guardians, with the guardians themselves referred to as "Watchers" or simply "Guardians".

In Christian influenced magic traditions, they are understood to be the Archangels Uriel, Raphael, Michael, and Gabriel.

Watchtower (song)

"Watchtower" is the fifth single by British rapper Devlin, and the lead single from his second studio album, A Moving Picture (2013). The song features British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and was produced by Labrinth. "Watchtower" was released on 16 August 2012 and entered the UK Singles Chart on 26 August 2012 at number 7, becoming Devlin's highest-charting single and first top 10 hit and Sheeran's fifth top 10 hit. The song samples the main chorus line from Bob Dylan's " All Along the Watchtower". It also borrows Jimi Hendrix's riff from the guitarist's cover. It was used in the Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg 2013 action-comedy film, 2 Guns.
