Waris is a drama created by PTV, written by Amjad Islam Amjad, directed by Ghazanfer Ali and Nusrat Thakur. The drama was originally telecast in 1979 and was again telecast in early 1990s and many more times and was a huge success. The show had 13 episodes, which is a traditional PTV drama serial format; with each episode almost one hour long.

The film was a remake of Tamil film Naan (1967) which was first remade in Telugu as Nenante Nene (1968), starring Krishna, Krishnam Raju, Kanchana in pivotal roles.
