Vinstagårdsskolan

Vinstagårdsskolan (the Vinstagård School) is a Swedish upper (senior) level of compulsory school (years 7-9), located in Vällingby in the outer western region of Stockholm.

The school was inaugurated in August 2001 by then City Commissioner of Education Jan Björklund. Upon time of inauguration the school consisted of approximately 180 students. It now (in 2009) has approx. 500 students all from 7th to 9th grade. Most students have formerly been in the schools of Vinstaskolan, Björnbodaskolan or Sörgårdskolan, automatically transferred to the Vinstagårdsskolan after the 6th grade, unless actively choosing another school. As of 2008, the school has a total of five batches graduated.

The education of Vinstagårdsskolan aims at developing skills preparing students for a complex and rapidly changing future information society. Part of the education is given in cross-curricular form, “projects”, allowing for subjects ranging from Science to Home Economics to coexist in class. For instance a project could explore the challenges of building and moving into your own house: eco-friendly building, mechanics of materials, planning your private and household economy and so on. This shows the students how separate subjects interact and integrate into everyday life.
