Turn the Tide (Johnny Hates Jazz song)

"Turn the Tide" is the only single of 1989 from UK pop band Johnny Hates Jazz. The song did not appear on any studio album, remaining a stand-alone single. The song peaked at #84 in the UK, lasting within the Top 100 for two weeks.

At the end of 1988, lead vocalist and primary songwriter Clark Datchler had left the band in order to continue his solo career. The two remaining members Mike Nocito and Calvin Hayes decided to continue the band with record producer Phil Thornalley on lead vocal.

Despite the commercial failure of the single, the same line-up would record and release the album Tall Stories in 1991.

A promotional video was created for the single.

"Turn the Tide" was written by Phil Thornalley, American producer Scott Cutler and Chris Murrell.

The B-side for the single, "Breaking Point", was an instrumental exclusive to the single, and was written by Hayes and Nocito who also produced this single.

For the 12" vinyl and CD formats of the single, a special remix of "Turn the Tide" was released, titled "Turn the Tide (Rouge Vogue Mix)".
