The shorts

    If we compare the nearest conventional shorts and longs in English, as in ``bit'' and ``beat,'' ``not'' and ``naught,'' we find that the short vowels are generally wide, the long narrow, besides being generally diphthongic as well. Hence, originally short vowels can be lengthened and yet kept quite distinct from the original longs.

The Shorts

The Shorts were a pop group from the Netherlands consisting of Hans van Vondelen (vocals), Erik de Wildt (keyboard), Hans Stokkermans (bass guitar) and Peter Wezenbeek (drums). The group was formed in 1976, and scored a 1983 international hit with " Comment ça va". Last "recorded" appearance in from Sopot Festival 1984.

The Shorts (ATC)

The Shorts is an Australian Turf Club Group 2 Thoroughbred horse race for horses three years old and older, at set weights with penalties, over a distance of 1100 metres. It is held annually at Randwick Racecourse, Sydney, Australia in September. Total prize money for the race is A$200,000.
