Sunathar is a village in Ganjam district, in Odisha state, India. Most people of the village belongs to khandayat kshyatriya. Most residents belong to the belama caste. A Jagannath temple, an Esaneswar Mahadev temple, a Somaraj Mahadev temple, a Shiva temple, a Raghunath temple, a large Hanuman statue and a Village Thakurani temple are the spiritual shrines of the village. Currently Mr. Gangadhar Nahak is the Sarapancha of Sunathar Gram Panchayat. The village has special cultural programmes which differs it from other villages. It is famous for Krushna Leela by Chaitanya kaala parishad, Prahalad Natak by Jagruti kala parishad. A Binniel Village Thakurani Yatra unites all the people of Sunathar. Sahi Bandha, Grama Bandha, Nua Bandha, Bengiti Bandha, Niga Bandha, Chaka Khata, Ganga Sagar (kandirapalli bandha) are small water irrigation projects of the village. A large rock that is present near Sahi Bandha is known as Pandav Rock. It is believed that Panchupandavas from the Mahabharat Era had spent some time there during their banavas (exile) period. Three primary schools, one M.E, and a high school (Bapujee High School) are the educational institutions of Sunathar. It has also many Anganwadi Centres from the government teaching children below 5 years old.
