Stavesacre

Stavesacre \Staves"a`cre\ (st[=a]vz"[=a]`k[~e]r), n. [Corrupted from NL. staphis agria, Gr. stafi`s dried grape + 'a`grios wild.] (Bot.) A kind of larkspur ( Delphinium Staphysagria), and its seeds, which are violently purgative and emetic. They are used as a parasiticide, and in the East for poisoning fish.

herbal plant of the Delphinium family, c.1400, from Latin staphisagria, from Greek staphis agria, literally "wild raisin," from staphis "raisin" (according to Klein, probably related to staphyle "bunch of grapes") + agria, fem. of agrios "wild," literally "living in the fields," from agros "field" (see acre).

Stavesacre

Stavesacre are an American supergroup from Huntington Beach, California formed in 1995. The band is composed of vocalist Mark Salomon, guitarists Jeff Bellew and Ryan Dennee, bassist Dirk Lemmenes and drummer Sam West.

Since its formation, Stavesacre has released five studio albums, two EPs, one split album, one compilation, and one DVD.

In 2007, the band stated they would be disbanding following the recording of a few new songs with Jeff Bellew, the band's original guitarist, who departed after the recording of Speakeasy. Their next release was the Against the Silence EP/DVD documentary. The band announced a 2016 studio album Stavesacre VI.
