Staniszów

Staniszów is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Podgórzyn, within Jelenia Góra County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It lies approximately south of Jelenia Góra, and west of the regional capital Wrocław.

Prior to 1945 it was in Germany. After World War II the region was placed under Polish administration and ethnically cleansed according to the post-war Potsdam Agreement. The native German populace was expelled and replaced with Poles. The herbal bitter Echt Stonsdorfer, still produced in Germany after the expulsion, originates from the village.

The village has a population of 640. There used to be a Bismarck tower on the village's highest point, Prudelberg Hill, erected in 1901 when the area still belonged to Germany. The monument was destroyed sometime before 1992; its base has been preserved.
