The Squonk is a mythical creature reputed to live in the Hemlock forests of northern Pennsylvania. Legends of squonks probably originated in the late nineteenth century, at the height of Pennsylvania's importance in the timber industry.

Usage examples of "squonk".

Apparently at signals which Jim and Mary could not separate from the other movements of their body languages, a squonk would come scurrying up to the Laagi who wished to sit with one of the seats, the lower end of which seemed to adhere to the floor the moment it was set down.

Doesn't it seem to you that that Laagi would want to know what a squonk had been doing up until then, and why he was free for other work now?

At which time, a squonk, summoned by some means Jim could not make out, would come scurrying over to take the finished work and carry it off.

Sooner or later you'll run up against reality as it actually is: and since you can't back downin your own way you're as stiffnecked as I am, or Squonk was, in his own fashionyou'll go right on refusing to believe.

The second squonk touched the far tip of the rod to the point at which the chairs joined, both squonks took hold of a chair apiece and pulled with what seemed to be considerable effort.

Working off the feedback of Squonk's emotions he thought he could almost feel, in muscles and tendons he did not have and had never had, the effort behind the touchings that were causing such pleasure in Squonk.
