Wikipedia
Spadroon

A spadroon was a light sword with a straight blade of the Cut and thrust type. The style became popular among military and naval officers in the 1790's, spreading from England to the United States and to France, where it was known as the épée anglaise (English sword).

Hilts were often of the beaded or "five-ball" type with a stirrup guard. A spadroon blade usually had a broad, central fuller and a single edge, often with a false edge near the tip.

Usage examples of "spadroon".

And he drew out a spadroon, which is an abominable sort of implement, just the sort of thing you would expect commoners to invent if you make the mistake of suffering them to bear arms.

Bob heard him coming at the last instant and whipped his spadroon around to parry the blow.

But among common folk, especially older ones who remembered Cromwell, the lore of the spadroon continued to circulate.

He was expert with a cavalry saber, which was a somewhat similar weapon to the spadroon, but he had also studied the rapier, and so he was at last able to give Oliver some instruction in what to do with his weapon.

So it was not out of all possibility that Bob might be obliged to swing a spadroon into the necks of his nephews during the mopping-up of Athlone.

Then his head, and the right arm and spadroon trailing along his body.
