Shadowland (band)

Shadowland are a British progressive rock band formed in the 1990s. The band's music tends towards the pop side of progressive rock, while retaining its melodic and emotional intensity.

Shadowland took a lengthy break from recording and performing between 1996 and 2009. During this time Nolan was writing and performing in Arena, which has a heavier musical style. Nolan has also been Pendragon's regular keyboardist since 1986 and, more recently, has written and toured a rock opera entitled She in a partnership with Agnieszka Swita under the band name Caamora.

Late in 2008, Nolan announced that Shadowland would be reforming for a tour in early 2009. The tour promoted a best of album, A Matter of Perspective, featuring the band's favourite tracks from the three previous albums as well as some new material, which was released in 2009.

During the tour Shadowland filmed a DVD, Edge of Night, released by Metal Mind Productions. At the same time, Metal Mind also released an individually numbered box set, Cautionary Tales containing all the earlier albums with bonus tracks, the Edge of Night DVD, and a two disc concert recording called Live in Poland which comprises the audio from the DVD.

Mark Westwood (Caamora, Neo) has replaced Ian Salmon on bass in the 2009 incarnation, but the rest of the original 1990s line-up is unchanged.

Although being the first single, "Shadowland" was the second track to be heard from the Lostboy! album, as "Refugee" had premiered on radio a week earlier. "Shadowlands received its world premiere by Billy Sloan on his Sunday night radio show on March 14, 2010 and then appeared on the Lostboy! AKA YouTube Channel the next day along with a remixed single version of the track.

The alternate remixed version, more suitable for radio airplay, was done by Cenzo Townshend who Jim Kerr chose after Townshend's work on Simple Minds' "Rockets" and "Stars Will Lead The Way", which he had mixed into more radio friendly forms. A promotional single with the new radio mixes of the song was shipped to radio stations on April 4, 2010. "Shadowland" was originally meant to be released as a commercial physical release, but it was eventually only released as a download single, which was released on May 9, 2010. Shadowland (comics)

"Shadowland" is a 2010 Marvel Comics storyline centering on Daredevil and other "street-level" superheroes in the Marvel Universe. The storyline started in the Daredevil comic and was expanded upon in the Shadowland five-issue mini series as well as four tie-in mini series, four one-shots, and two issues of Thunderbolts. The storyline was collected into seven individual hard cover and soft cover Trade paperbacks in 2011.

The story chronicles Daredevils' return to Hell's Kitchen after he becomes the leader of the Hand Ninja clan. He builds a temple/prison in Hell's Kitchen, the eponymous Shadowland. His methods get more extreme as he kills long-time adversary Bullseye. The change in attitude brings him and his ally White Tiger in conflict with a number of street level super-heroes such as Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Moon Knight and more. The storyline also introduces a new Power Man to the Marvel Universe.

The heroes later realize that Daredevil has become possessed by the Beast of the Hand, which explains why Daredevil's actions have become more and more extreme and erratic. The heroes are helped out by the Kingpin and Lady Bullseye as they try to preserve the Kingpin's criminal empire. In the final moments of the story Iron Fist uses his mystical chi to heal Daredevil, releasing the demon inside him. In an act of sacrifice Daredevil kills himself before the Beast can take control of him again, breaking the spell the Beast had on Hell's Kitchen. Afterwards his corpse disappears, apparently to be revived by Elektra at the conclusion of the event.
