Rødding

Rødding is a town with a population of 2,666 (1 January 2014) and a former municipality ( Danish, kommune) in Vejen municipality in Region of Southern Denmark on the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. The former Rødding municipality covered an area of 273 km², and had a total population of 10,915 (2005). Its last mayor was Tage Sørensen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The municipality was created in 1970 as the result of a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that merged a number of existing parishes:

  • Hjerting Parish
  • Jels Parish
  • Lintrup Parish
  • Rødding Parish
  • Skodborg , Parish
  • Skrave Parish
  • Sønder Hygum :da:Sønder Hygum , Parish
  • Øster Lindet , Parish

On 1 January 2007, Rødding municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with Brørup, Holsted, and Vejen municipalities to form the new Vejen municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 817 km² and a total population of 41,350 (2005). The new municipality belongs to Region of Southern Denmark ("South Denmark Region").

Rødding is the home of the oldest folk high school in the world, Rødding Højskole.
