Revival (television)

A television revival is an attempt to revive a defunct series by producing new episodes created for broadcast. Network executives may decide to attempt to revive a television program when they feel that a market once again exists for it.

Revival is one of several programming strategies television networks employ to capitalize further on successful programs; among the other methods are spin-offs, cast reunions, and television movies based on the original program.

Unlike spin-offs—in which a television network creates a new program around one or more familiar, popular characters from a different program—a revival involves the reintroduction of most, or at least many of the original program's storyline, characters, and locales. Revivals should also be differentiated from remakes and continuity reboots where the characters and/or central concepts are retained, but the story starts over from the beginning again. Revivals differ in that they pick up either from where the older show left off, or at some time after that point.

An example of a successful revival outside of the US is the 2005 British science fiction series Doctor Who.

A notable example of an unsuccessful US revival is the 1968 CBS series Blondie (a remake of the 1957 NBC series), which only lasted for half of a season (13 episodes), despite being based on an extremely popular and durable comic strip, and a marketing tie-in with a series of paperback reprints of Blondie strips starting with the 1930s originals. The 1957 series only lasted one complete season (26 episodes).

The cover design echoes the silhouette design of Fogerty's first solo album The Blue Ridge Rangers. The first single from the album was "Don't You Wish It Was True". The album contains two war protest songs: "Long Dark Night" and "I Can't Take It No More", both of which speak out against the Bush administration and the Iraq War. The latter song contains a lyric that refers to one of his hits with CCR, by referring to Bush as a "Fortunate Son." Also, this song sounds like Ramones-style punk rock. Fogerty has done some experimentation with that sound ("She's Got Baggage" from Deja Vu (All Over Again)). Another song, "Summer of Love", is a tribute to Cream and Jimi Hendrix, and has a musical citation from " Sunshine of Your Love". "Creedence Song" refers to CCR's swamp rock.

The album debuted at #14 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling about 65,000 copies in its first week. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album of 2008, but lost to Foo Fighters's Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. This album was #11 on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007. Revival (Selena Gomez album)

Revival is the second studio album by American singer Selena Gomez. It was released on October 9, 2015, by Interscope and Polydor Records. Gomez began planning the project in 2014, at which time she left her previous label Hollywood Records and subsequently joined Interscope and Polydor, and continued work into 2015.

The record was inspired by the work of a range of artists, especially Christina Aguilera's sophomore studio album Stripped (2002), and Gomez's trip to Mexico, where she defined the album's sound. Working with a handful of songwriters, Gomez co-wrote eleven out of the sixteen tracks that made the album's tracklists. The album reflects her journey since 2013, including the media scrutiny on her personal life. As executive producers, Gomez, Danny D, and Tim Blacksmith collaborated with producers including Hit-Boy, Rock Mafia, and Stargate to achieve her desired new sound. Their efforts resulted in a primarily a pop record, being the genre showcased in form of midtempo electropop and dance-pop, connected by a tropical beach sound and lyrics that discuss love and confidence.

Revival received generally positive reviews from contemporary music critics, who appreciated its overall production and Gomez's vocals. It also entered on several year-end list of best albums. The record debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 with first-week earnings of 117,000 units, of which 85,000 were pure album sales. In doing so, it became Gomez's second consecutive number-one album, after Stars Dance (2013). On February 2, 2016, the RIAA certified Revival Gold, denoting 500,000 album-equivalent units (including albums sales, streaming and track-equivalent units) sold in the United States.

With its singles " Good for You" (featuring rapper A$AP Rocky) and " Same Old Love" both reaching number five and " Hands to Myself" charting at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100, Revival is further distinguished as Gomez's first record to house multiple top 10 singles in the United States; all of which became her first three number-one singles on the Mainstream Top 40 chart. Gomez promoted the album with several televised performances and embarked on her Revival Tour in May 2016, which will visit North America, Asia, Oceania, Europe and South America.
