' Protomachus' was a Macedonian general in the Battle of Issus commanding the Prodromoi and replacing Amyntas (son of Arrhabaeus). In the battle of Gaugamela he was replaced by Aretes

Protomachus was an Athenian general in the naval Battle of Arginusae. He was one of the eight generals who were deposed from their office and ordered to return to Athens to stand trial; Protomachus, along with Aristogenes, deserted however.
