Printr

Printr is a Dutch-based 3D printing software company eliminating the technical knowledge needed to use a 3D printer. The company was founded in Enschede in 2014 by Douwe Mulder, Chris ter Beke and Cecile van der Waal while being Creative Technology students at University of Twente. In 2015 Printr moved their headquarters from Enschede to Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

In cutting out complex tasks involved in operating a 3D printer, Printr introduced Formide, a cloud-based 3D printing platform, also described as an “all-in-one 3D print ecosystem”, that allows users to model, slice, repair files and adjust models within one workflow.

In January 2015 the company also launched The Element, a USB dongle which connects one’s 3D printer remotely to one’s computer. The Element is a plug and play device which, amongst others, enables wireless 3D printing as well as collaboration with others. The device is to be used in combination with the Formide platform. In order to facilitate users in finding suitable 3D models, Printr partnered with 3DShap.es, a search engine for 3D print models. Printr received a total equity funding of $820k in two rounds from investors.
