Pittampally is a village in Chityal mandal in Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located to the west of the village of Chityal along National Highway 9. The population of the village is about 1,500. The soil is red and black, and the main source of living is agriculture. Paddy, sunflower, tobacco, vegetables, dairy and horticulture are grown.
This village has history. Many people sacrificed their lives during a guerrilla fight against Nizam rule and the Razakars, who were state sponsored volunteers for oppressing Hindus, peasants and insurgents during the rule of Nizams. Pittampally is close to the historic Gundrampally village where 300 freedom-fighters were killed and their bodies buried in an agriculture well by the Razakars.
The village headmanship or Vatandar belonged to the Gummi family (the late Gummi Hanuma Reddy and his three sons, the late Gummi Narsi Reddy, the late Gummi Madhusudan Reddy and Gummi Prabhakar Reddy). The Gummi family created jobs and distributed lands to the poor. Late Gummi Anantha Reddy of Sunkenapally was Samithi President twice from Choutuppal Samithi. The late Sri. Gummi Madhusudan Reddy was a Telangana freedom fighter in 1969-71, President of the Osmania University students league and President of City College, Hyderabad. His elder son, Dr.Gummi Srikanth (Pediatrician) is a doctor and social worker. His younger son, Gummi Vijaykanth Reddy, is president and co-founder of the Yuvajana Sanghala Samithi of North America and the member of UNICEF. Gummi Vijaykanth, along with his friend and founder of Yuvajana Sanghala Samithi, Jitta Balakrishna Reddy, distributed de-fluorination water plants to supply fluorine-free drinking water to 100 villages in Bhuvanagiri division.
