Pantech

Pantech Inc. is a South Korean company that manufactures mobile phones. Established in 1991, its market is mainly domestic with partners in the United States, Japan, China, and Europe. In 2012 Pantech was the second best-selling handset maker in South Korea, according to Gartner. In 2013 Samsung Electronics bought a 10% stake in Pantech. Pantech also partners with PCD for specialized phones.

For the U.S. market, the company primarily manufactures phones for the two largest wireless carriers, AT&T and Verizon.

According to a July 2014 report from CNET, Pantech is facing bankruptcy with over $475 million in debt.

In October 2015, BusinessKorea reports that Korean regulators approved acquisition of Pantech by a local tech consortium led by Optis and Solid.

Then I rolled the Pantech into a dim corner and prepared for the night.

I had been as careful as I could, requiring that the Pantech get not one but two cues from me.

I didn't really need the power, since the Pantech has its own internal source, but it was illegal to ship that power plant without having it inspected and certified, and why bother them with all that red tape?

From the outside it looked like a cubist's idea of an icecream cone, and from inside, the hatch I could open to gain access to the interior was now under my feet, the Pantech becoming my basement.

The cargo modules, including the Pantech, had standard couplers that simply and easily snapped over the "horizontal" poles—they were horizontal at launch, anyway—where it was free to swing and sway and orient itself according to the direction of thrust: "riding the rods," just like the Old Earth hoboes.

I sighed, opened the Pantech (this time shielding the code plate), and got out my own thermos.
