Oerlikon (Zürich)

Usage examples of "oerlikon".

The snow, three to four inches deep, cushioned his footsteps as he came up behind an Oerlikon gun.

Hartley turned back to the Oerlikon, stripped earphones and chest mouthpiece from the dead man.

Waterspouts, twenty feet in diameter at their turbulent bases, streaked up whitely into the twilight, high above the truncated masts, hung there momentarily, then collapsed in drenching cascades on the bridge and boat-deck aft, soaking, saturating, every gunner on the pom-pom and in the open Oerlikon cockpits.

Apart from a lone Oerlikon on a sponson below the starboard side of the bridge, the next Condor pressed home its attack against a minimum of resistance.

He looked over the side of the bridge, stared down into the Oerlikon gunpit, then looked away, his lace expressionless.

On the after-deck, hanging on for dear life to the safety-lines, to the Oerlikon and the Carley float, to anything within reach, Westover, Tebbitt and Robb felt rather than saw Treherne and Slingsby approach, crabwise across the rolling deck.

Slingsby said slowly, let me have one blast at em with the Oerlikon, Skipper.

Through the rain which rattled off the deck again and set the Oerlikon glistening, Milliken saw for the first time the shape of a trawler in the mist, slightly to port of them, blue-grey and blurred but ominously high and powerful.

Up on the monkey island above the bridge a pair of 20mm Oerlikon cannons nestled in a circular emplacement shaped like the small, wooden bull rings, miniature amphitheatres, so common in French towns near the Pyrenees.

Not courage, but experience, is the strength you need to face it from behind the practically unprotected sights of an oerlikon or pom-pom.

Before the machine dwindled too far he saw a ragged strip reaching back along the fuselage where the oerlikon had sheathed its claws.

As it was, only a lucky shot from the oerlikon saved them from possible damage.

And try and get close enough to the Oerlikon to take out anyone left with it.

He saw the muzzle-flash from the Oerlikon and flattened against the trunk of the pine as the half-dozen rounds whistled by, forty yards or so to his left, blowing a hundred-foot pine completely out of the ground.

He craned over the screen, seeing an Oerlikon gunner directly below him, strapped by his harness, while his gloved hand beat an urgent tattoo on the breech as his assistant hoisted a full maga zine into place.
