NCBioImpact

NCBioImpact is a partnership of North Carolina organizations created to enhance the trained workforce for biotechnology and other life science employers by educating students and retraining incumbent workers. A 2010 Battelle report commissioned by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center found that almost 47,000 biotechnology-related (direct and indirect) jobs were added during the period of 2008-2010, bringing the total jobs in North Carolina to almost 227,000 and annual compensation and benefits increased nearly $3.3 Billion. The president of the North Carolina Biosciences Organization (NCBIO), the trade association for North Carolina’s life science community, stated “NCBioImpact makes it possible for companies growing or relocating to North Carolina to bring new facilities and new workers on-line in substantially shortened timelines with better quality outcomes and higher productivity." Three major three companies, Novartis, Merck & Co., and Medicago-USA, located facilities in North Carolina after considering all factors, including the hands-on training programs offered by the university and community college systems.
