Monasa

Monasa is a genus of puffbird in the Bucconidae family. Established by Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot in 1816, it contains the following species:

  • Black nunbird (Monasa atra)
  • Yellow-billed nunbird (Monasa flavirostris)
  • White-fronted nunbird (Monasa morphoeus)
  • Black-fronted nunbird (Monasa nigrifrons)

The name Monasa comes from the Greek word monas (a form of monos), meaning "solitary".
