Mobimail

Mob-I-Mail was the first Dutch service to allow sending and receiving of email messages by using GSM and Mobitex networks. It was launched by Harold Wiegers, Rob de Reeper and Robert van Alphen. In 1996 the service working under the mobimail.com domain became available for subscribers of the Dutch KPN and RAM mobile data networks.

With a central server placed at Phonex headquarters in Maarssen connections between internet and the wireless networks were established.

The Mob-i-Mail client software was available for both PC ( Windows 3.11) and Psion. It was one of the first products to enable wireless and online gaming. It had chat and email with full address book functionality. Other functions like sending of business cards, were quickly copied by phone manufactures like Nokia.
