Middle Island (Lake Erie)

Middle Island is a small island, just in size. It is the southernmost point of land in Canada, located at 41°41'N, 82°41"W (41.685,-82.684), or about 41.7 degrees north latitude. It lies in Lake Erie, just south of Pelee Island, and is part of Point Pelee National Park. It forms part of the province of Ontario. The southernmost part of the island lies some from the U. S. maritime boundary. The distance to the northernmost point of land in Canada, Cape Columbia, Ellesmere Island, is .

The southernmost point of Middle Island is at a latitude of North 41°40'53", which is slightly lower latitude than the southernmost point in Michigan, and Mentor, Ohio. Twenty-seven U.S. states lie all or partly north of this point, as do European cities such as Rome and Barcelona. Thirteen states are entirely north of this latitude (Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine).

Middle Island lends its name to West Virginia's Middle Island Creek and lies at its confluence with "The Thoroughfare", a channel of the Ohio River that separates the island from the riverbank. A bridge (needing renovation) connects Middle Island to downtown St. Marys.

Middle Island is an island within the Lacepede Islands group, which sits about 30 kilometres (20 mi) off the coast of the Dampier Peninsula in north-west Western Australia. It is located at 16° 51' S 122° 08' E. It forms part of the Lacepede Islands Important Bird Area (IBA), so identified by BirdLife International because of its importance for breeding seabirds.

Middle Island (Warrnambool)

Middle Island is a small (c. 2 ha), rocky island lying close to the shore of south-western Victoria, Australia, in Stingray Bay next to the city of Warrnambool. It is a wildlife sanctuary that is home to breeding colonies of little penguins (Eudyptula minor) and short-tailed shearwaters (Ardenna tenuirostris). It is now closed to general public access due to the low penguin population.

Middle Island is the largest of three islands off the far south-western coast of Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. Approximately 28 ha in size, it sits within Pondalowie Bay, Spencer Gulf and is part of Innes National Park. It is also located within a Habitat Protection Zone of the Southern Spencer Gulf Marine Park. The smaller island to the south is known as South Island, while another to the north is known as either North Island or Royston Island. DEWNR lists the islands as 'no access' areas for the general public.

Middle Island ( French: Île du Milieu) is an island off the south coast of Western Australia in the Recherche Archipelago.

The island is in length occupies an area of and approximately off shore from Cape Arid. The island is the largest in the Recherche Archipelago.

It was named by D'Entrecasteaux. Matthew Flinders visited in January 1802 and climbed the peak (subsequently named Flinders Peak) to survey the surrounding islands.
The island contains a pink lake, Lake Hillier, from which John Thistle, the Investigator's Master, collected some salt samples.
Philip Parker King anchored off the island in 1818 and lost two anchors that were later recovered in 1973. Sealers operated from the island throughout the 1800s.

The pirate Black Jack Anderson, based himself on this island to launch raids on vessels making their way between Adelaide and Albany.

The Belinda was wrecked off Middle Island in 1824. In 1826 eight Englishmen who had been marooned on Middle Island by the captain of a sealing vessel Governor Brisbane were found by the French explorer Dumont d’Urville aboard the Astrolabe. The Mary-Jane was wrecked off the island in 1875.

In 1889, Edward Andrews investigated the commercial possibilities of producing salt from Lake Hillier, and briefly moved onto the island with both of his sons. They left after working the salt deposits for about one year.

The Rodondo was wrecked off the island in 1894 and the Eclipse met a similar fate in 1898. The SS Penguin was wrecked off the island while sheltering from a gale in 1920.

The island supports a population of the tammar wallaby and the bush rat.
