Mamala

Mamala is a small village in Ernakulam district of Kerala state, south India. Mamala is 15 km away from the main city Ernakulam.

The word meaning of "Mamala" - Mamala is everything but it is nothing at the same time so basically it encompasses all but is nothing.

There is an Excise office in the main junction. During the rule of kings ( Maharaja), Mamala was the border of Cochin and Travancore kingdoms, and the Excise Office was then the "Chauka" (Check post). Now it is in the Thiruvaniyoor panchayath region.

As other villages of Kerala, Mamala is also blessed with its scenic beauty. When entering from West, we can see the Mamala Thodu ( the stream ), with greenery on sides. Mamala extends from this stream in West to Sasthamugal in the East, and from Kakkad in North to Muriyamangalam in the South.

Sasthamugal is named after a temple of Lord Sastha ( Ayyappa). Sasthamugal has acres of rock quarries (Madakal). Muriyamangalam is famous for the Narasimha swamy temple. The St. George Jacobite Syrian Chapel at Kakkad is about 1.5 km from Mamala junction. There is also a Sree Krishna temple at Kakkad.
