Main Street (Ottawa)

Main Street (Ottawa Road #72) is a major road in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Despite the name, the street is not Ottawa's "main street", as one would argue that that title would be held by Bank Street. Main Street however is the "main street" for the community of Ottawa East. It was originally the main street of Archville, Ontario, which later amalgamated with Ottawa in 1907. At that time Ottawa had no other street called Main and the name was not changed. Main Street begins at Colonel By Drive near the community of Sandy Hill and runs in a straight line south until it bends near the Rideau River and becomes Smyth Road. Main Street is home to the Cuban embassy, Immaculata High School and Saint Paul University. For most of its length it runs parallel with the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal, being about halfway between them.

Main Street (TTC)

Main Street is a station on the Bloor–Danforth line in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is located on the east side of Main Street a short distance north of Danforth Avenue. Connections to GO Transit's commuter train service on the Lakeshore East line can be made at Danforth GO Station, approximately 300 metres to the south on the east side of Main Street.

This station became wheelchair accessible in 2004. An elevator provides access from the streetcar and bus platforms at street level, where the main entrance and collector's booth are located, to an intermediate mezzanine area and directly to the platform for eastbound trains. A second elevator provides a connection between the mezzanine and the westbound subway platform. To facilitate accessibility automatic sliding doors were added at the street entrance and on the north side of the station building, along with an accessible faregate and improved signage. A space is reserved for Wheel-Trans vehicles.

Olivia's grandmother owns a store with Ruby's and Flora's grandmother.

After completing the Baby-Sitters Club series, Ann M. Martin began the Main Street series. She has stated in one of her interviews that she always liked writing about small towns and this made writing the Main Street series even more interesting. The books have at one point or another talked about almost everyone and all shops in the town. According to Martin, she had to create a whole new imaginary town which was very enjoyable. Each book has a detailed map of the town.

Main Street

Main Street is a generic phrase used to denote a primary retail street of a village, town or small city in many parts of the world. It is usually a focal point for shops and retailers in the central business district, and is most often used in reference to retailing and socializing.

The term is commonly used in Ireland, Scotland, the United States, Canada, and less often in Australia and New Zealand. In most of the United Kingdom the common description is High Street. However, the term "Main Street" is sometimes used in the UK, for instance, in the village of Sutton Cheney. In Jamaica the term is Front Street. In some parts of the south west of England the equivalent used is Fore Street.

In many places, the street name for such a street is actually "Main Street", though even where it isn't the term "Main street" is still used to describe the main thoroughfare of the central business district. The "Main Street of America" branding was used to promote U.S. Route 66 in its heyday.

Main Street (Greater Salt Lake City)

Main Street is the most important commercial street in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States though it also extends south into the cities of South Salt Lake and Murray as well as unincorporated Millcreek Township. Its commercial importance is almost totally derived from the few blocks of the street which are immediately south of Temple Square that have attracted banks, major retailers, and heavy foot traffic throughout Salt Lake City's history; the long southern extension of Main Street south of about 500 and 600 South, in contrast, is always in the shadow of State Street (one block to the east), which (due to width, speed limit, and restraint of cross traffic) is more designed for the long-distance automobile traffic that is common away from downtown.
