Lemsford

Lemsford is a village and parish in Hertfordshire. It is near Welwyn Garden City and was created in 1858 out of Hatfield parish.

It is nearly 3 miles north of Hatfield, on the southeast side of Brocket Hall Park. It is widely known for its large mill on the River Lea, which is now the headquarters of Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. The church was erected in 1859 as a memorial to the sixth Earl Cowper, is Early English and Decorated, with a good east window, the latter also dedicated to the memory of the earl. The tower (west) is lofty and embattled.

The society osteopath Stephen Ward, a significant figure in the Profumo Affair of 1963, was born at Lemsford in 1912.
