Kastrati

Kastrati is an Albanian surname. It is derived from the name of a tribe of the Malësi e Madhe area in Northern Albania. In 1403, certain Aleksa Kastrati, a lord of three villages, received a gift from the governor of Shkodër.

Kastrati (tribe)

The Kastrati is a northern Albanian tribe and region in Albania. The Kastrati, together with Hoti, Kelmend and Shkreli are considered highland clans in the region of Malësia. According to tradition, people of all clans of Malësia, except part of Gruda, came from the hills of Montenegro or Bosnia. The region is in the Malësi e Madhe District, east and north-east of Bajzë, a small town in Kastrat Municipality.
