Iuka

Iuka is the name of five communities in the central-southeastern United States. These communities were named after the Chickasaw Indian Chief Iuka. His name is a contraction of Ish-ta-ki-yu-ka-tubbe. Chief Iuka participated in the ratification of the 1832 Treaty of Pontotoc Creek, an action that led to the ceding of Chickasaw lands east of the Mississippi River. Those communities are:

  • Iuka, Illinois, a village in Marion County
  • Iuka, Kansas, a city in Pratt County
  • Iuka, Mississippi, a city in Tishomingo County
  • Iuka, West Virginia
  • Iuka, Kentucky, a village in Livingston County
  • Iuka, Arkansas, a village in Izard County
